N40m Fraud: Court Sends APC Chieftain To Prison

                     

The senatorial pioneer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State South Senatorial District, Dr. Taiwo Malumi, was, on Wednesday, remanded in jail authority by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. Malumi, a medicinal specialist and Managing Director of Funtai Limited, was charged under the steady gaze of the court for an asserted N40 million extortion.

In a one-number criminal accusation (No.FHC/L/302C/16) recorded by the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Malumi was asserted to have deceitfully acquired the total of N40 million from one Nick Shaiyen, Managing Director of Whitehall Management Limited.

The said total was supposedly acquired from the casualty through a property sold to him by Malumi. The property, recognized as Unit B9, Funtai Court, 3, Ruxton Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, was erroneously displayed to Shaiyen as being absolutely free from encumbrances.

As per the prosecutor, Mr. Ekong Sunday, the charged offense contradicts Section 1(1)(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud Related Offenses Act 2016. The APC fat cat argued not liable to the charge.

An endeavor by his attorney, Mr. Olumide Esan, to have his safeguard application heard fizzled, as he was not able present the safeguard summon he had recently documented under the watchful eye of the court. The prosecutor additionally told the court that he required time to react to the application.

The managing judge, Abdulaziz Anka, , while deferring till 6 October for the beginning of Malumi's trial, requested that he be remanded in jail authority.
