Cop takes care of the bill for couple who declined to sit beside him and his kindred officers


A Pennsylvania cop, Chuck Thomas of the Homestead Police Department , grabbed the tab for a couple who declined to sit by him and his 3 kindred officers at a neighborhood burger joint, Eat n' Park eatery last Friday. Officer Thomas made a post about the episode on his Facebook page. He said this happened a day after the Dallas Police shooting. He composed:
"A male and female would have been situated opposite us, and he said, 'I would prefer not to stay there,'" Thomas said, "which drew my consideration, and we looked, and his non-verbal communication just let me know that he doesn't wante anything to do with police."

"I looked over at him and said, 'You don't need to stress over it. We won't hurt you,'" Thomas said.

A server at the Eat n' Park, Jesse Meyers, told WTAE-TV:




"He said, 'No, I'm great. I would prefer not to stay there.'"

"A table goes to take a seat, and the person looks over at one of the cops and resembled, 'Nah, I would prefer not to stay here.' So they got moved totally inverse, far from the cops." He said,
Thomas told WTAE-TV, "We get stuff like this constantly, and you dismiss it," yet he had a craving for connecting after what happened in Dallas. Thomas said that he needed to leave the two a note however was uncertain how to do so and after that chose to get their check and scrawl a message on the receipt. He composed that he paid for their supper and expressed gratitude toward them for their backing. He likewise left a $10 tip.

"What it truly came down to was that, at last, I simply needed to tell them that we must better the relationship amongst police and the group," he said.

"The day after Dallas, it was tight. You could feel the strain noticeable all around," Thomas included. "Many individuals came up to us and say thanks to us and shook hands and discussed their distress. This was the main negative experience of the day."

"Eventually, we're here for you," he said. "This us-against-them attitude that is around here — we must change that. We must break that."

Thomas said that he took care of the bill while he was en route out and that the server later let him know the couple was "tossed back by it" and wound up "laughing."
